Steve helps those in need with Bible message app
IT'S only been about two years since Steven Grant first began taking a serious interest in religion, but since then, he's read the Bible's New Testament more than 10 times.
But the 61-year-old Rockhampton man decided on a more modern way to spread the message of peace and love than early Christians did 2000 years ago.
Steven has developed an app called Bible Verses That Give, which will donate 100% of its profits to six chosen charities.
"At this age, you start to think a little bit more about giving back rather than taking," he said.
"There's a lot of abuse in the world, a lot of people who are homeless and a lot of people who are poor so I was obviously looking to try and… (make sure) it was going to get the money to the people who actually need it."
Steven did an analysis of several charities to try to find the ones that directed the most money into actual projects on the ground, instead of absorbing the money into administration costs.
He eventually settled on World Vision, Red Cross, Save The Children, Medicins Sans Frontiers, UNICEF and Care International.
"I didn't want to find out that 90% went to administration costs instead of the projects themselves," he said.
Steven hand-picked 286 messages from the Bible, contained in more than 900 verses, to include in the app.
He took the concept to Rockhampton design firm Almost Anything back in January to start the creation process.
"The message that Jesus gives is a sensational message," he said. "It's a message of peace and love, and that's what I want to promote."
Bible Verses That Give can be purchased for $2.49 from both the Apple App Store and the Android Play Store.
