Replacement magistrate appointed

A NEW magistrate has been appointed to Rockhampton to replace Magistrate Cameron Press, who re-located to Emerald in April.

An Australian Government Solicitor of 26 years, Barry Cosgrove, will take up the position on July 25, Deputy Premier and Attorney-General Paul Lucas announced on Friday.

Mr Cosgrove was admitted to practice as a solicitor of the Supreme Court in 1980 and as a legal practitioner of the High Court of Australia in 1985.

“I congratulate Mr Cosgrove on his appointment to this significant role in both the Rockhampton community and the Queensland justice system,” Mr Lucas said.

“I am confident he will serve the Rockhampton and wider Queensland communities well.”

Mr Lucas said Mr Cosgrove had held the position of senior executive lawyer in charge of the general litigation and commercial team in the Australian Government Solicitor's Brisbane office.

“During this time Mr Cosgrove has practised extensively in the areas of coronial inquiries, dispute resolution, as well as in administrative law and other areas of general law and commonwealth practice,” he said.

“Mr Cosgrove brings a keen interest in community work.”
