Report: Private investment could fix shoddy rural roads
THE key to rebuilding the country's shoddy rural roads in both Queensland and New South Wales could lie in private investment according to a national report praised Australia's top farmers' group.
The National Farmers' Federation has backed the results of Infrastructure Australia's National Road Asset Reporting Pilot, a report which NFF president Brett Finlay said highlighted the need to better fund the national road network.
NFF President Brett Finlay said farmers work effectively and tend their products, only to lose value once their commodity hits the road.
"We need to harness the opportunity for private sector investment, and invest in building better quality roads in rural Australia," he said.
The NFF praised the Federal Government for making a vow to launch an infrastructure audit.
