MEMBER for Keppel Bruce Young yesterday said his office had received only positive feedback about the Newman Government's crackdown on criminal bikie gangs.

Responding to a request for his thoughts on the crackdown from The Morning Bulletin Mr Young said the laws had been introduced to target the illegal activities of criminal gangs, including criminal bikie gangs.

He said law-abiding motorbike riders had nothing to fear.

"The act provides strong mandatory sentences for members and associates of criminal gangs who commit serious offences as part of their participation in that gang," Mr Young said.

"This legislation will target only criminal motorcycle gang members. Other law abiding motorbike riders have nothing to worry about."

Mr Young said the events at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast where the bikies encircled the police station was the tipping point where the government had to provide stability and safety for our society.

"Our office has only received very positive feedback from these new legislations in outlawing criminal bikie gangs and also the tough stance on sex offenders," he said.
