A FIRE that broke out in the hinterland is adding to the smoky haze lingering across the Sunshine Coast.

Two fire crews have extinguished a fire that broke out at 8.20am on Steve Irwin Way.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said smoke from the Beerburrum fire could be adding to the smoke haze coming from other fires north and west of the Coast.

A Sunshine Coast firefighter told the Daily that even though there were no major fires close by, smoke may be travelling from the Elgin Vale, Doughboy, and Taromeo fires.

"Smoke could be coming down from those," he said.

"Smoke can travel and hold together for a long time.

"There is a northerly (wind) blowing and it turns into a westerly just north of Noosa."

One permit burn has been authorised on the Sunshine Coast today.

A pile of rubbish in Eumundi has been authorised to burn, but as the burn-off will take place in a pit it is unlikely that smoke from that fire will have widespread impact.
