Revving up in family encounter and dominating podium
WHEN Coby and Andrew Mitchell get behind the wheel, it's on for young and old.
The father and son duo love nothing more than going head-to-head on the motorkhana course.
The pair took to the track at Rosel Park for the Central Queensland Motor Sporting Club's motorkhana and khanacross racing event on Sunday and dominated on the podium.
Having raced for the past 18 years, Andrew had experience on his side and managed to take top honours but son Coby, who placed second, said that doesn't stop him from out-racing his dad every now and then.
"We race against each other and I think dad won today but I sometimes beat him," Coby said.
"He gets a little bit annoyed when I win."
As the opening driver, Coby said he felt the pressure early but overall was pleased with his results.
"It was pretty good and I'm pretty happy with how the car went," the 14-year-old said.
"I was the number one driver and it was pretty slippery after the rain on Saturday and I was under pressure setting the scoreboard for the day."
Coby's results on Sunday follow a streak of success in the driver's seat with top 10 overall finishes all season.
"We've had four races so far and my results have been pretty good," he said.
"I went to the Queensland titles this year and I did pretty well. We were going to go down to Brisbane for the rest of the championships but just don't have the time. We have a few more races at Gracemere Saleyards coming up though."
