RGS cricketers have a blast in state final
CRICKET: Rockhampton Grammar School's cricketers have savoured their first appearance in the Milo T20 Blast School Cup state final.
The Rockhampton team, which finished a creditable eighth, was one of 10 from across the state that qualified for the final played at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
RGS got off to the perfect start, winning their first game against Happy Valley State School.
They were then beaten by St Francis and in their third round match went down to eventual winners, The Southport School.
That set up another clash with St Francis in the play-off for seventh and eighth, with RGS going down in a tight game.
RGS coach Owen Kelland was proud of the team's performance and said it was a great opportunity for his young players to mix it with some of the best young cricketers from across Queensland.
"The boys really enjoyed the experience and were competitive in each game, even against The Southport School who had some exceptional cricketers,” he said.
"We're looking forward to competing again next year if we get that far.”
