Roar won't back down from physical Glory

THE Brisbane Roar won't be taking a backward step when it hosts the Perth Glory in what is expected to be a physical A-League clash at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow.

The Glory sits second on the table with seven points, but clearly leads the competition when it comes to yellow cards. It has 12 - three more than any other side.

"I'm not saying we have to be physical (too), I'm just saying that we won't get bullied,” Roar coach John Aloisi told media yesterday.

"Try and bully Luke DeVere - he's a big boy, he's not going to take a step backwards.

"We're prepared, we know the way they're going to play - we know they're going to come here, sit off, frustrate us, try and catch us on the break, but we just need to be patient, make sure we play our game and not get too anxious.

"We won't get sucked into playing a dirty game. I don't think they play dirty anyway, Perth. They're just hard at the ball, and we have to be the same.”

Glory coach Kenny Lowe will be forced to watch on from the stands, however, after receiving a two-match ban for abusing a referee.

Aloisi said he believed Perth's players would miss his presence.

"You know what he's like - he's jumping around, he's infectious,” he said.

"How can you not lift as a player when you've got someone like him, not only yelling at you but so emotional on the sideline? The players will probably lose a little.”

The Roar is placed seventh after registering its first win of the season last week with a 1-0 victory over Central Coast.
