Robberies remain rife in region

TWO more businesses in the Rockhampton region were broken into on Sunday night - following a string of break-ins and armed robberies this year.

Police were notified early yesterday morning of a break and enters at Rockhampton's Australian Reinforcing Company (ARC) on Richardson Rd, and Yeppoon Sail Inn motel.

Four days earlier, North Rockhampton's Raffles Hotel employees were held-up at an armed robbery, the second attack at the hotel this year.

Police said it was believed the offender/s gained entry to the ARC building by breaking a wooden door.

A spokesman said officers believed a sledgehammer could have been used.

Offenders gained entry to the cash till, which was empty, and attempted to break into a safe, without success.

In a separate incident, at Yeppoon, a tool was used to force open the Sail Inn's office door.

A spokeswoman said the burglars rummaged through draws but it was not clear what was taken.

Rockhampton CIB officer-in-charge Detective Sergeant Steve Paskin said there had been no progress in investigations into the Raffles attack.

Investigations into Sunday night's incidents are under way.

Anyone with any information should contact police on 4932 6262 or via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
