Rocket veterans back on court

THE Republik Nightclub Rockhampton Rockets are about to turn back time.

Suiting up for the Rockets on their first double-header of the 2011 QBL season this weekend will be veterans Paul Scott and Stuart Reoch, who played together in Rockets colours for the first time in 1994 – 17 years ago.

With Rockets import Pero Vasiljevic unavailable for this weekend’s matches against the Gold Coast and Northside, and Scott unavailable for the first match of the road trip, Tweedy has called upon Hog’s Breath Cyclones assistant coach Reoch to take his place.

Cyclones head coach Peter Trenerry is also part of the squad for this weekend’s crucial matches.

Scott has played in both of the Rockets opening matches of the season, while Reoch is expected to make his first appearance on court for the Rockets this season.

Scott said he was happy to fill the gaps in the Rockets line-up and relieve the starters.

“That’s my job. I’m in there to give the big guys a rest. We’ve got plenty of guys that can do the scoring,” he said.

Playing down his chances of taking to the court this weekend, Reoch said he would only be utilised in an emergency.

“I’ll suit up and do the warm-up, but something drastic would have to happen for me to get out there,” he said.

“I’ve been training and it’s more because I’m on the road trip anyway.”

Scott has seen his fair share of Rockets squads over the years and is confident with the make-up of the 2011 line-up.

“It’s good. It’s looking strong at the moment and it’s only going to get stronger when Stevie (Weigh) and Mitch Philp join the squad,” he said.

The Rockets meet the unbeaten Rollers at the Gold Coast tonight before travelling north to Brisbane to take on Northside tomorrow afternoon.

The Rollers’ return home for the first game of the season after three wins on the road and boast a very experienced roster, which includes Australian Boomers guard Adam Gibson and NBL veteran Scott McGregor.
