Rockhampton drivers gamble with danger at crossings

THERE were 13 near-misses at railway crossings in the Rockhampton region between 2012 and 2013.

Queenslanders are being urged to take care in light of shocking new footage that shows motorists and pedestrians gambling with their lives on the rail network.

Transport Minister Scott Emerson said although the number of near-misses had dropped by 27%, too many people were taking senseless risks at rail crossings.

"Pedestrians caught ignoring railway crossing protection could cop an on-the-spot fine of $220 and offending motorists could face a $330 penalty and three demerit points," he said.
