Cinema braces for blockbusting numbers over holidays

WITH new blockbusters hitting the big screen in Rockhampton, Birch, Carroll and Coyle are bracing for an influx of movie goers over the Christmas period.

Rockhampton cinema general manager Rominesh Ayre said Star Wars looked to be the highest selling movie for the local cinema this year.

"I would say Star Wars will be the biggest selling movie for Rocky and most likely cinemas all around Australia," Rominesh said.

There will be a midnight screening on December 16 for Star Wars.

"Tickets are selling fast and we encourage customers to pre-purchase tickets early to avoid disappointment," he said.

He said while Star Wars would most likely be the blockbuster of the year, family films would also sell well.

"We have kids' movies which will play well such as Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Road Chip, The Good Dinosaur and Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie."
