Rockhampton racing identity Colin Gabel dies

COLIN Gabel, former chairman of the Rockhampton Jockey Club, died in Rockhampton at the weekend.

The 85-year-old, who has not been in the best of health recently, was admitted to hospital on Friday night before passing away at 7am Saturday.

Married to his wife Beryl for 60 years, Mr Gabel was the proprietor of butcher shops throughout Rockhampton.

Mr Gabel's funeral will be held at the Catholic Church, Main St, Park Avenue at noon on Wednesday.
