Rockets games this weekend could determine the 2015 season

ROCKHAMPTON Rockets coach Neal Tweedy believes the triple header on the road against Ipswich tonight, Toowoomba on Saturday and South West on Sunday could be season defining.

"You could say it is a season defining road trip, yes," Tweedy said.

"If you win all three away it really sets you up for the play-offs. But if you lose all three you could be out of finals contention. If you win a couple, well you are still in the hunt. So there is no underestimating the importance of these three away games for us."

Despite the pressure of three tough games in as many days on the road, Tweedy considers his squad is in a much stronger position than they were before their two previous road trips.

"The first road trip we were under prepared," Tweedy said.

"We had only just got Chehales Tapscott back and Dominic Cheek was straight off the plane, so he had a very limited preparation with the team. I also feel we were disadvantaged going into the round eight games away against Townsville and Mackay. We had three weeks off, with the two byes, before we played those games."

"Heading into this road trip we are fit and are at full strength. Plus, confidence is high in the group after two strong wins at home."

One of those strong wins was against the previously undefeated, ladder leading Mackay Meteors.

Rockets co-captain Mitch Philp was instrumental in that game, dropping some three pointers at critical moments of the match to keep the Rockets firing.

And he agrees with his coach.

"The win against Mackay gave us great confidence," Philp said.

"It showed us we can mix it with the best. We will have to do that again against Ipswich and Toowoomba. They are both great sides. It's a little unknown for us against South West. But no-one is an easy win for us. So it will be a tough weekend. But we are feeling good heading into the three matches."
