Rocky airport hits record numbers
THE number of people using Rockhampton Airport is soaring, council says.
Council says there has been an increase of 8.7% in passenger movements compared to the same period in 2009, which has helped set a new annual record (for the year to September) of 751,327 for the airport.
Chair of Rockhampton Regional Council’s business enterprise committee, Graeme Brady, says this is an extremely positive and encouraging milestone for the airport and region.
“These figures are the best we have ever seen, and we expect that they will further increase next month due to the Singapore Armed Forces military exercise,” Cr Brady said.
“With an increase in passenger figures of between 4.8% to 5% per annum, council is extremely optimistic of the airport’s future and the flow on effects for our region.
“The market continues to improve dramatically, new routes are continually announced and the recent reinstatement of Tiger Airways’ Melbourne route has been extremely beneficial for this business and its travellers.”
