Rocky bank boss tells court how he chased alleged robber

A WESTPAC bank manager who gave chase after a man allegedly robbed his branch told a trial in Rockhampton District Court he, "thought maybe his dole payment had not come in".

Peter Fraser this morning told the court he heard John Robert Cole shouting in the bank's Stockland Rockhampton Branch at 3.30pm on January 8 before Cole allegedly took off with nearly $10,000.

"He looked odd and out of place by the way he was dressed and he made a bee-line for the teller," Mr Fraser said.

"I realised it was more serious than that when I heard him say give me the cash.

"I though s**t something serious is happening."

Mr Fraser said he took chase as Cole fled the bank.

"I thought bugger this, I'll chase him and see where he was going," he said.

The court heard Cole spent the money at a Footlocker store, on pokies and on a BMW in the days after the alleged offence.

Cole has pleaded not guilty to one charge of armed robbery.

The trial continues.
