Rocky crossfit team powers into top 10 in Australia

CROSSFIT: VidaFit Rockhampton has finished sixth out of more than 100 teams at the national crossfit finals on the Gold Coast.

"It's our best finish ever - sixth out of the entire country,” an excited VidaFit director and team member Dan Withers said.

"It was pretty incredible.

"We just managed to scrape into the national finals last year and we placed 19th overall. We had a goal to finish in the top 10 this year and we did that.

"We'll definitely be chasing a podium finish next year.”

For the first time in the four years that VidaFit has contested the All Star Affiliate Series, its three six-member teams qualified for the national final.

And they started with a flurry, their elite team leading the competition at the end of day one before losing its stranglehold as a result of some challenging workouts on the second day.

Each workout is designed to test the 10 principles of the competitors' fitness.

"At the back end of the competition there were a couple of workouts that didn't play to our strengths,” Withers explains.

"We were up against some world-class athletes who happened to get the better of us.

"But like everything, we will learn from that and know that will have to be a focus for us moving forward.

"We know the areas we need to work on now and we'll do that and next year we'll be aiming for the sky.”

Withers was gushing in his praise of the 18 team members who competed at the Gold Coast.

"This result is basically the result of six months of pretty tough programming and rigorous training,” he said.

"The key to our success is consistency; we are all very rounded competitors and there are not many deficiencies in our game.

"Everyone in our competitive squad has been amazing. The time and effort they have put into their training and the way they've improved over the last six months is phenomenal.

"But it's not just the six members of each team but the whole community here. It's been a massive team effort.

"A lot of hard work went into this so it's nice to reap the rewards.”
