Rocky duo teams up for nationals

MARTY Penfold believes in saving the best for last.

Penfold joins forces with fellow Rockhampton indoor cricketer Michael Roberts to lead a star-studded North Queensland line-up in next week's Australian Masters Championships.

"We've been doing a fair bit of work with our local coach Mick Hepburn; fielding, batting and working on quick reflexes," Penfold said.

"We are looking to go for national selection but we will take that bridge when it comes."

The pair played their part at the Queensland Zone Indoor Cricket Championships in September last year to finish with three wins.

"We were told zones are a lot harder, with a very high standard of cricket," Roberts said.

"We had a very successful competition and were asked to play nationals, which was very exciting."

North Queensland will face some of the best teams in Australia and New Zealand.

"We have eight teams to play against in our pool, including two teams from New South Wales and New Zealand," Penfold said.

"If we win half of those games we will be in the finals."

Coach Hepburn said "they've been training really well, three or four times per week.

"They know with indoor you need to be able to bat, bowl and field.

"Michael and Marty will do Rocky proud."
