Rocky guy the new face of XXXX

THIS former Rocky bloke is set to become the toast of beer drinkers across Queensland.

Michael Thomson will be the envy of all his mates after he was chosen as one of the stars on an advertisement for Queensland’s favourite beer.

The 28-year-old was chosen from more than 1000 people who answered XXXX beer’s call for genuine Aussie blokes to audition for a role in the ads, which are due to hit TV screens next year.

Michael, who now lives in North Warner, near Brisbane, took time away from his day job with Queensland Rail to film the ad which wrapped up yesterday.

He worked alongside professional actors at a closed set on location in North Queensland.

The former Emmaus College student has a long-held ambition to be an actor, and even signed up with talent agencies while he was travelling overseas in the hope of breaking into the highly competitive profession.

He has his mates to thank for telling him about the opportunity in the first place.

“All my mates know I’d love to be a professional actor, and one of them spotted XXXX’s casting call online and told me I should apply,” Michael said.

Michael said his mate was getting married yesterday and he couldn’t go because of filming.

“He’s been very understanding though; he knows how much I want to break into acting and that I couldn’t turn down the chance,” he said.

Michael’s proud mum and dad, Margaret and Barry, will be happy to see a bit more of their son.

“My folks are thrilled. They live in Rockhampton and I don’t get to see them that often,” he said.

Bill Webb, XXXX regional director, said: “We had no way of knowing if we’d find someone who had what it takes.”
