Rocky health staff attacked
HEALTH staff from Rockhampton Hospital are recovering from injuries sustained after a patient allegedly attacked them on Monday.
A police spokesman said police were called to the hospital's Mental Health Unit at 2.45pm after a 31-year-old male patient reportedly attacked staff.
The man was charged that day with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and two of common assault for alleged offences against four Queensland Health employees.
Police said investigations indicated the man had wanted a cigarette and health staff would not give him one.
It was alleged the man then started attacking them.
He was remanded in custody overnight and appeared in Rockhampton Magistrate's Court the next morning.
He was released on bail and is due to appear in court again on February 10.
Police said another worker made a complaint about the man on the Tuesday which police were still investigating.
"Mental health staff are trained to deal with aggressive clients on a regular basis. There are duress alarm systems in place and hospital security staff nearby," CQ Mental Health Services director Lindsay Farley said.
