Rockhampton mechanic’s on the road to national success
ROCKHAMPTON'S Adan Harper has been named top of the tradies after winning a national competition.
A mechanic with Brown and Hurley Kenworth DAF Rockhampton, Adan beat 150 people Australia-wide to be named 2015 PACCAR Australia Kenworth Technician of the Year.
Adan has worked with Brown and Hurley for nine years, completing his apprenticeship with the company after high school.
He completed four rounds of theory tests throughout the year before being selected as one of three finalists.
The two-day Melbourne competition involved a day of theory and a practical challenge where contestants had to find faults in a Kenworth truck, fix them and write comprehensive job cards within a two-hour time limit.
Adan said the practical element was much like a normal day on the job, but with the added pressure of a time limit and judges watching his every move.
He said the competition had been a good learning experience.
Brown and Hurley Kenworth DAF Rockhampton service manager Tony Mullen said the title was a "fantastic achievement".
Tony said everyone in Brown and Hurley was proud of Adan and the national recognition he had won.
He said it was great to see Adan achieving well after training with Brown and Hurley's dedicated technical training centre.
As well as a day at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, Adan won a $1500 gift voucher to the store of his choice.
