Rocky Police officer assaulted while arresting offender

A MAN in his early 20s and a 19-year-old woman will appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court this month after they assaulted a Rockhampton Police officer.

On Saturday night, officers were called to a north Rockhampton address, where there had been an alleged disturbance at a house in Thozet Road.

Inspector Virginia Nelson says when the female officer attempted to arrest a 22-year-old, the latter allegedly became aggressive and started to resist.

She says police officers attempted to administer pepper spray, to restrain the offender, but he allegedly assaulted the female police officer.

Following the alleged assault, several other Rockhampton Police units rushed to the scene.

The officer sustained bruising to the head and had a concussion.

She was transported to Rockhampton Hospital.

The alleged pair will appear in court this month charged with public nuisance, obstructing police officers and serious assault.
