VIDEO: New creative outlet with bi-annual Rocky journal

TERRY Phillips works in admin by day, but at night he sits down to write and edit Steampunk fiction.

Today, he celebrates the launch of Specul8, a journal of speculative fiction with contributions from writers across Central Queensland.

Terry said the journal, which he hoped would be published bi-annually, celebrated a variety of genres with anything from dark horror to sci-fi and fantasy.

"We hope to get it off the ground and make it a viable publication to give local authors the chance to be published," Terry said.

Authors from Rockhampton, Gladstone and Emerald all contributed to the first edition.

Submissions for the second edition of Specul8 open in December and close at the end of February.

The third issue, themed "The End of the World as We Know It", will be out this time next year.

Local authors will also be celebrated on Wednesday, November 25 at the Rockhampton Regional Library's Local Author Expo. The expo runs from 4pm to 6pm.
