Rogic's Celtic draws big guns in Champions League

SOCCEROO Tom Rogic's Celtic has a date with European powerhouses Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain after Friday's draw for the UEFA Champions League.

The Scottish champions, who won the 1967 European Cup, also will face Belgian side Anderlecht in Group B.

Celtic assistant coach Chris Davies said the Scottish side would not be taking a backward step despite the tough draw.

"I don't think the seedings are too far off. Anderlecht are in pot three and they would look at us in the same way," Davies told Sky Sports.

"But what I will say is that with what we can deliver, especially at home and with the way the managers prepare the team, we will certainly go into games confident that we can get results.

"We are certainly not there in any way, shape or form to resign ourselves to fighting for third place."

Rogic's fellow Australian Tommy Oar also will have a tough run in the competition, with his Cypriot side Apoel Nicosia drawn with defending champion Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur in what has been dubbed the Group of Death.

British sides Manchester United and Liverpool had favourable draws, with the Red Devils to face Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow in Group A, while the Reds have been drawn alongside Spartak Moscow, Sevilla and Maribor in Group E.

Chelsea has been grouped with Atletico Madrid, Roma and Azerbaijani side Qarabag, while Manchester City will face Shakhtar Donetsk, Napoli and Feyenoord.

The competition begins on September 13 (AEST).
