Roll up, roll up, Knocktoberfest is here
ROLLER DERBY: Sporting names like Stella McSmash, Sirius Whack and Fury Floss you know what you are going to get.
A bloody bath on wheels will rock the CQUniversity Sports Complex in the form of Knocktoberfest.
The CQ Misfits will host teams from Mackay, Brisbane and Gladstone in eight jam-packed games of war.
Katrina Woodman, aka Stella McSmash, said her team was in the hot seat to win.
"I think we would have to be the team to beat,” she laughed.
"I think our last game we played was against Mackay earlier in the year and we went really well. We smashed them by like 200 points all up. Everything came together really well.”
The girls all agreed Roller Derby took a toll physically, they have never had so much fun.
"Oh yeah, it is hard out there,” she sighed.
"But the best thing about it is that anyone can do it. It doesn't matter if you are an athlete or have never played sport, anyone can do it.
"The names are important. You have to have a good name. For me, Stella is my favourite song and I just like smashing into things.”
That is, after you met a specific criteria.
"You have to be able to skate 27 laps of the track in five minutes, which equates to 11 seconds per lap,” she said.
"Be able to get hit without falling, skate backwards and come to a complete stop a number of ways.”
Derby action begins at 1.3pm with games on all afternoon and finals at 7pm.
The Rocky Roller Derby club needs help. Due to the closure of their lease, they have no venue to train at and are essentially homeless. The team said any assistance would be greatly appreciated, you can contact their facebook page for more information.
