Flood warning for Roma

FOLLOWING a revision of expected peaks the Bungil Creek is now expected to reach 8.1m later today.

This may result in localised flooding to the north east and eastern areas of Roma which could affect up to 200 homes.

The RSL on Quinten Street has been established as an evacuation centre and we urge residents in all low lying area to leave their homes and consider attending the evacuation centre.

The Warrego Highway is closed to all motorists at Blyth Creek, approximately 15km east of Roma.

The Carnarvon Highway is also closed to motorists due to flooding between Springsure and Rolleston.

Motorists should avoid Roma-Injune Road which has been closed due to road damage.

Emergency Services have already responded to a reported incident on the Carnarvon Highway around 7pm yesterday and another incident on the Warrego Highway around 5am today.  During both incidents occupants of vehicles had to be rescued after the cars were washed from the roadway.

Avoid flooded roads, creeks and watercourses. Motorists are also reminded that road closures and road conditions can change rapidly as creeks and water courses can rise and fall quickly.

Parents are reminded to ensure children are not playing in flood prone waterways, watercourses and drains as water levels can rise quickly.
