Sad clowns: Four Queensland boys in masks charged

FOUR teenagers and a tween will now have to face the grown-up consequences of their actions after they were caught wearing clown masks and breaking into a hotel.

Police believe the group of four were sneaking up on people, then jumping out at them in Cairns CBD on the weekend.

Police have seized CCTV footage.

The four were charged after security guards caught the boys at a hotel in the town's north.

Far North police Acting Inspect Mick Gooiker said the group had allegedly broken into two apartments, stealing mobile phones and cash.

Each of the boys have been charged with four counts of enter premise and steal, two counts of wilful damage.

They also face a charge of public nuisance, in relation to the clown-mask incidents.
