Chris Sandow stars as Eels snatch victory from Broncos

HE WAS in the rugby league wilderness at the start of the season, but halfback Chris Sandow got back in Parramatta's good books after the Eels finally broke a 20-game on-the-road losing streak against Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium last night.

It was Sandow's 40m field goal in the 74th minute that provided a plucky Parramatta with a 25-18 upset in front of another big crowd, of 32,009, who watched the lead see-saw throughout the second half.

Parramatta's last away win was in 2011, also at Suncorp Stadium.

Down 18-16 after Brisbane forward Josh McGuire scored from a bomb, Parramatta grabbed the lead back when hooker Nathan Peats muscled his way over for a converted try and a 22-18 lead.

Sandow extended that to 24-18 with a close-range penalty in the 62nd minute before slotting his match-clinching field goal 12 minutes later.

In Sydney, Canterbury five-eighth Josh Reynolds secured the Bulldogs a gripping 9-8 win in the wet with a 70th-minute field goal in a low scoring affair where both sides ripped into each other from the kick-off.

Parramatta 25 (W Hopoate, S Radradra, J Hayne, N Peats tries. C Sandown 4 goals, field goal) bt Brisbane 18 (A Copley, B Hunt, J McGuire tries. C Parker 3 goals) at Suncorp Stadium. Crowd: 32.009.
