Now it's real ... Schapelle finally a 'free' woman

SCHAPELLE Corby has completed paperwork and and been briefed on her parole conditions, and is now settling into life outside Kerobokan jail.

The convicted drug smuggler made her way out of the jail and into a waiting police van, where she left the prison area under a heavy police escort, with lights and sirens. She was covered with a shawl, frustrating waiting photographers.

She then had two appointments, one with corrections officials and another with the parole office, before she was whisked away to an unknown location and her  first taste of freedom in almost a decade.

It had been widely reported that Corby would be taken to a "protected" location, where a media company would conduct her first post-jail interview.

A report on Twitter suggested Channel Seven's  Sunday Night reporter Mike Willesee and producer Andy Byrne were waiting outside the corrections office to whisk her away with a fleet of four private cars and security guards.

Corby will have to report to her parole officer in Indonesia regularly and will will be returned to jail if:

  • She commits a crime
  • She is accused of committing a crime
  • She causes discomfort to society
  • She fails to report to her parole officer three times in a row
  • She fails to report a change of address
  • She fails to follow or obey programs organised by her parole officer
