School formal season under way

FINAL preparations for the end of Claire Huxley's schoolyard days are falling into place.

The Yeppoon State High School Year 12 student purchased her formal dress online and she and her mum added extra sequins and a beautiful beaded halter before the big event tonight at the Capricorn Resort, Yeppoon.

While showing the sequined bodice of her dress yesterday, the teen said she loved it when she saw it on the computer and when it arrived, she was lucky that it fit her well and was the right colour.

"I thought it looked really nice, I was lucky it turned out well," she said.

Claire will spend today getting her nails done and doing her own hair and makeup before she climbs up onto a couch on the back of a ute for the big arrival.

Yes, it's that time of year again when the next crop of school-leavers get dressed up to celebrate their final year of schooling and the start of the next chapter in their lives.

Yeppoon State High is the first off the rank of school formals in Rockhampton before many others take place in various venues around the region next week.

November 18 also marks the first day of Schoolies Week, where almost 500 teens are expected to head to Yeppoon for the week; but for Claire, she and her two friends aren't sticking around town.

They have been planning a real holiday to Vanuatu where Claire plans to get massages by the beach.
