Police give chase after speedster roars through school zone

POLICE were searching for an unknown number of offenders tonight after a car speeding through a school zone at Coffee Camp sparked a pursuit.

The unregistered white Nissan Pintara with Victorian registration plates then sped off towards Lismore at 100km/h.

When the car stopped just north of Koonorigan Rd, police thought the driver was stopping for them, but a passenger bailed out and the car took off toward Goolmangar.

The pursuit continued with the car turning into Rosehill Rd, before it overtook a car in the Blakebrook school zone.

After turning into Rock Valley Rd, the car turned right into Boggumbil Rd and on to Jiggi Rd, before driving back through Goolmangar towards Nimbin.

Pursing police reported the car was travelling at 100km/h in an 80km/h zone when it sped through the Goolmangar school zone.

As it headed towards Nimbin, the car overtook several other vehicles over unbroken lines as police followed.

When the Pintara got to Nimbin's Cullen St, it turned right into Cecil St and the pursuing police vehicle lost sight of the Nissan.

A police vehicle equipped with road spikes parked 200 metres along Cecil St, ready to deploy the spikes if the car doubled back.

Another police vehicle that reported being low on fuel headed back to Lismore to refuel.

Officers located a break in a fence off Cecil St where the Pintara was driven through the fence and across a paddock.

About 700 metres from where it crashed through the fence the Nissan was found by police unoccupied.

Police were this evening searching properties on Tuntable Creek Rd, near Nimbin, to try to locate the offenders.

Crime scene officers were called to examine the Nissan.
