Baio: Co-star ‘wanted me to be her first’

SCOTT Baio has again forcefully denied Charles in Charge co-star Nicole Eggert's allegations that he molested her as a minor - claiming that they had sex only when she was 18 after she seduced him.

Appearing on Good Morning America, Baio, 57, insisted that "absolutely nothing" inappropriate happened between the two when she was under 18 years old.

He also stressed that the crowded set of the 1980s sitcom would have made any such behaviour impossible, reports the New York Post.

"On any given day, especially on Charles in Charge, which was like a picnic - one of my favourite jobs I've ever done - there's teachers, parents, family, crew, producers, my dad - so how any of this could've happened is absolutely impossible," he said.

"It was impossible because when a child is on a set, they're either in school or they're on the set with a teacher and their parents," he added.

He described his relationship with Eggert, 46, on the sitcom - which ended its six-year run in November 1990 - as "great."

"I can tell you, and I mean this sincerely, one of the most fun things I've ever done," he said. "Talented girl. We had a great time. Everybody liked each other."

When asked about Eggert's allegation that he molested her in a garage at his house when she was just 14, he said, "I have no idea what that means."

He said he remained friends with Eggert "after our only sexual encounter, which she aggressively sought".

"She wanted me to be her first so that she will be good for her boyfriend," he added.

Eggert's Charles in Charge castmates - Alexander Polinsky and Adam Carl - have come to Eggert's defence, recalling witnessing Baio's inappropriate behaviour.

"I don't know what they're saying," Baio said. "I don't know why they're saying it."

On Tuesday, Eggert said on Megyn Kelly Today in the US that she is exploring all legal options and is considering filing a police report.

Baio said he has no concerns that she will report her allegations to authorities.

"Why should I have concerns over something I didn't do?" he said.

Baio also took to Facebook Live over the weekend to dispel the allegations.

A day later, he released letters his lawyers sent the Dr. Oz TV show that lay out a timeline of his and Eggert's sexual relationship and which he says are "evidence" he did nothing wrong.

Eggert has told the gossip site TheDirty.com that Baio took her virginity at age 17 after their show had wrapped. The letters argue that she must have been 18 at the time of their tryst based on her birthday.

The actor was particularly emotional when he mentioned his wife and daughter.

"My 10-year-old daughter doesn't need to be hearing about this from friends at school - these fake allegations," he said. "Her job is not to defend me. My job is to defend my daughter. Her job is to be a 10-year-old."
