Search for missing tourist

AT first light the RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter departed Mackay for Whitsunday Island to assist with the search of a missing 31-year-old tourist.

It is believed a vessel capsized with 12 persons on board, 11 were rescued with one woman being unaccounted.

The incident happened near Turtle Bay, close to Whitsunday Island approximately 5 kilometres north of Hamilton Island at around 5pm on December 27.

Poor weather yesterday afternoon meant the rescue helicopter was not able to assist in searching at that time, as there was a heavy thunderstorm and strong winds in the areas.
