CCTV images catch hold-up terror
IT’S unlikely a young Rockhampton convenience store worker will ever forget these images.
They show a trio of armed bandits who burst into the North Rockhampton store he was working at on Monday night and demanded cash and cigarettes.
The bandits were armed with a gun and baseball bat.
Police yesterday released CCTV footage of the hold-up at the Oasis Convenience Store, on the corner of Richardson Road and Bruigom Street, about 8pm.
Later in the day, the central region’s acting crime co-ordinator Acting Inspector Paul Elliot said police were talking with a couple of people about the attack.
“We are conducting an investigation and as a consequence of this we have two people who are helping us with our enquiries,” Acting Inspector Elliot said yesterday afternoon.
The male shop attendant was the only person in the store at the time of the robbery.
Police said he was “okay” after his ordeal.
Two of the bandits hid their faces behind pieces of clothing while a third had a hood over his head.
The first male had an Aboriginal appearance and wore three-quarter blue denim shorts, a black and white singlet and dirty white joggers. He covered his head and face with a black and white singlet.
The second man, who was holding the gun, had a Caucasian complexion and was wearing a dark, long-sleeved hooded jumper, dark three-quarter shorts and white joggers with black laces.
The third suspect carried a baseball bat and had a tan complexion.
He was wearing white, black and yellow board shorts, thongs and used a white shirt to cover his head.
It’s thought the men had run into the Norman Gardens area after the robbery.
Police are encouraging anyone with information about the robbery to call Rockhampton Police on 4932 3500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
