Seed wins on a Happy note at Top Guns Rodeo on weekend

IT WAS nothing but "Happy" days for Dingo rodeo champion Ben Seeds at the weekend.

More than 1500 spectators snuggled into the Great Western Hotel arena over two days to witness one of the most successful rodeos in Rockhampton.

They all flocked to witness Seeds take out the open men's event on his bull called Happy, with a top score of 87 points.

The Dingo man was among several winners in the Top Gun Rodeo event.

Rockhampton's Sonny Schafferius destroyed his opponents' chances of a win in the open saddle bronc ride on Saturday night.

Arena manager Brian Duggan said with Rockhampton being the Beef Capital of Australia, there were several riders who were showing increased potential as champions for Australia.

"Many of our riders start off in the Young Guns events... then, we see them among the world's best," Duggan said.

The total cash prize for the two events (Young Gun Rodeo on Friday and Top Gun on Saturday) was about $9000.

Here are just some of the results from the Top and Young Gun events:

Poddy ride: Jacob Watson, 1; Nichalas Webb-Jenkins, 2; Lleyton Marks, 3; Boston Leather, 4.

Open barrels: Sarah Morgan, 1; Amber Patteson, 2; Jamie-lee Williams, 3; Jema Slotosch, 4.
