Seeney, council in talks over Coast development

SENIOR council officials have held a private meeting with Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney days after being blasted by Premier Campbell Newman for stifling development.

Mayor Mark Jamieson, CEO John Knaggs and Planning chair Christian Dickson had a 30-minute audience with Mr Seeney, who is the State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Minister.

Cr Dickson said it was "great meeting, really productive".

He did not feel Mr Seeney was putting any pressure on the council to move forward with extra development plans.

"He seemed very much inclined to listen to what the council had to say," Cr Dickson said.

"The general theme of the meeting was that he understood and appreciated the work the council was doing.

"We presented a number of cases around where we have been progressing negotiations with the development industry and we will have more good news.

"There was no pressure to do more," Cr Dickson said.

He said he could not comment on Mr Newman's comments that developers had told him dealing with the council was difficult.

"I wasn't at the meeting that Sunday," Cr Dickson said. "I didn't hear what was said, I read it in the paper.

"The meeting (yesterday) was an opportunity to share what has been happening."

Cr Jamieson also said the meeting was "productive with goodwill on both sides".

Mr Seeney had not responded to the Daily's questions about the meeting by deadline.
