Senator calls for Govt audit of environmental activists

SENATOR Matt Canavan has called for a Federal Government audit of environmental activists in a submission to a parliamentary inquiry.

In the submission he said that of around 600 organisations listed on the Register of Environmental Organisations, about 100 did not look to have actions to support the environment as their primary focus.

Their inclusion in the REO makes them eligible for tax-deductible donations.
