Seniors see stars with special discount at Pilbeam Theatre

A SPECIAL "Mayor's Treat" for the Seniors' Week Morning Melodies concert was announced this week, with all tickets at just $5.

The "Starr" of the concert on Monday, August 17, at the Pilbeam Theatre has been everywhere, it's Lucky Starr.

Starr has been a household name in the entertainment industry for more than five decades.

He was a regular on Bandstand, Six O'Clock Rock and Sing Sing Sing and he recorded one of Australia's all-time favourite songs, I've Been Everywhere, a catchy tongue-twisting list of Australian places the singer has been to.

Rockhampton Regional Mayor Margaret Strelow said she wanted to give a special treat to the seniors of Rockhampton region this Seniors' Week.

"What better way to do it than with a concert by a great Australian singer, Lucky Starr," she said.

"With a performance including hits of the 1960s, along with a good mix of popular country music and memories of Bandstand and Six O'Clock Rock, I am sure seniors of the region will love it.

"As a special Mayor's Treat I have ensured that tickets are just $5 each - and that includes a free morning tea supplied by Brumby's Allenstown before the show."

A founding member of the Australian pop music industry, Starr had success in Australia and on the Nevada circuit, playing shows in Las Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe.

Starr was the first Australian performer to entertain the troops in Vietnam, and he returned for a total of six concerts. In 2002 and 2003, he joined with other Aussie pop icons in Long Way to the Top.

Morning Melodies is presented by Rockhampton Regional Council and Bolsover Radiology.
