Serial drink-driver almost five times over limit after crash

A MOTORIST, who crashed her car while she was almost five times over the legal alcohol limit, had been caught drink-driving less than a month earlier.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court, Felicia Elizabeth Zimmermann pleaded guilty to driving over the middle alcohol limit and driving under the influence.

Police prosecutor Constable Toni Hay said Zimmermann blew a blood-alcohol reading of 0.240 after she was involved in an accident in Brassall at 10.40pm on February 28.

Const Hay said Zimmermann had been charged for another drink-driving offence 20 days before the crash.

She said police had pulled the 24-year-old over on February 8, after she was seen driving on the wrong side of a one way street in Ipswich.

Zimmermann was given a breath test and recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.124.

Defence lawyer Allanah Patron said Zimmermann was a "disciplined and hard-working" woman and that her offences were "out of character".

She said her client was embarrassed about her decision to drink and drive and showed genuine remorse.

Ms Patron said Zimmermann's "eyes had been opened" to the danger in which her drink-driving had put herself and other road users.

She said her client had not consumed any alcohol since her most recent drink-driving offence.

Zimmerman was fined $1500 and disqualified from driving for two years and 10 months.
