'Serious allegations' lead to hospital review

THE Palaszczuk Government will review the commissioning of the new Lady Cliento Children's Hospital in Brisbane after 'serious allegations' were raised by parents, staff and the community.

The review will examine the building and operational commissioning processes carried out in late 2014.

Health Minister Cameron Dick said the review would focus on identifying lessons for future major projects.

"Families, hospital staff, unions and members of the public have all approached me raising concerns about the lack of nursing staff and trained cleaning staff the operation of outsourced services like porterage and cleaning and the lack of a functioning café," Mr Dick said.

"The Hospital and Health Service's own clinical review also raised questions about the commissioning process.

"This government will be commissioning another major hospital on the Sunshine Coast in this term of parliament so it is important that the lessons from this experience can be learned."

"The hospital staff and board have done exceptionally well in difficult circumstances and they have my full support."

The review will be led by Professor Debora Picone, CEO, Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care; Mr Mark Tucker-Evans CEO of Council on the Ageing; and Mr David Roberts, Health Leader, Oceania, Government and Public Sector, Ernst & Young.
