UPDATE: A woman is lucky to be alive after a jacaranda tree fell on her vehicle, trapping her in the car on Mary St this morning.

Danielle Martin was on her way home from dropping her children at school when the incident occurred.

Had she not taken emergency action and swerved to the left, she wouldn't be able to tell her story.

Her first thought was that the falling tree was dumping its flowers.

That wasn't the case, however, and the tree slammed into the roof of the vehicle, bringing down powerlines and trapping her inside.

She screamed at the motorist following behind to call 000 before hunkering down as low as she could in the car.

The power was cut from the fallen line by power crews before QFES crews freed her.

EARLIER: Emergency services have closed Mary St as they clear a fallen tree that has pulled down powerlines.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area as the scene is being cleared.

Toowoomba regional council crews are also on scene and Ergon has been contacted.
