Police say drugs found in bag after Botanic Garden search
UPDATE 12pm: Rockhampton police say they have found a bag containing what's thought to be drugs after a search of the city's botanic garden area.
The search, which started yesterday afternoon and recommenced at first light today, followed an alleged incident yesterday afternoon.
A police spokesman said police were conducting road side breath tests along Gladstone Rd when officers briefly chatted to a man shortly after 4pm.
The spokesman alleges the man drove off in his vehicle without being tested.
He said police gave chase but lost sight of the vehicle before picking him up near The Range about 10 minutes later.
"The man got out of the car and ran into bushland, concealing something from police before dumping the concealed item in the area," the spokesman said.
"The man was taken into custody."
Police had to abandon their search in the gardens last night due to fading light, but found the bag this morning.
Police allege had the man had a weapon in the car.
The man faces several charges. He was expected to appear in court this morning.
