SES mission a first for the Central Region
CASUALTY management, leadership, decision making and rescue techniques were among the skills more than 60 SES personnel practised earlier this month.
In a first of its kind for the Central Region, an SES Rescue Challenge brought volunteers and staff from Banana Shire's Biloela, Moura, Thedore and two teams from the Rockhampton SES Unit.
Support staff filled various roles, including casualties and judges, attended from Mackay, Nebo, Emerald, Mt Larcom, Mt Morgan, Gracemere, Rockhampton and Yeppoon.
The event included four events; a trapped casualty extraction, a restricted space rescue from a mine tunnel, a multi-casualty exercise involving a double decker bus and a search and rescue along a creek and on an island. All teams were fully involved in the activities.
This was the first time we have held this event in Central Region for many years.
Feedback was positive and early indications are that several more teams will participate next year.
