Houses lose roofs, major damage in wake of Warwick storm

UPDATE: A mass clean up is underway in the Rose City, with reports more than a dozen homes have lost roofs after severe storms swept across the region this afternoon.

There's been widespread reports of damage, with roofs lost, homes struck by lightning and hail damage to cars and property.

Two houses at Clintonvale reportedly have minor structural damage.

There has also been delays on the Cunningham Hwy near Gladfield, with powerlines blocking the highway.

Campbell's Gully, north of Warwick, received more than 50mm of rain in half an hour.

EARLIER: State Emergency Service crews from Warwick and Stanthorpe will work into the night after a storm hit Warwick this afternoon and caused minor damage to some homes.

Rainfall measurements up to 40mm resulted in water crossing the road in some areas.

Group leader Matt Songergeld said there was some hail damage and broken windows, some caused by falling timber.

"We have 25 staff on the job and 10 coming from Stanthorpe, there are 20 jobs to attend to," Mr Sondergeld said.

There was loss of power in some areas of Warwick but for some, the power was back within 30 minutes.

In areas on the northern and western sides of Warwick, hail was marble sized but south of Warwick there was pingpong ball sized hail.
