Setting cat alight a sick act, says RSPCA

THE death of a cat following an alleged act of serious animal cruelty in Innisfail has been described as "a sick act" by the RSPCA.

A Goondi Bend man is scheduled to front Innisfail Magistrates Court on September 18 after allegedly dousing a domestic cat in petrol before setting it alight on Saturday morning.

Police say a trap was used to catch the cat, which was then immediately taken to a vet after being found by its owner.

The animal was then euthanised.

Speaking to the Cairns Post, an RSPCA spokesman said the incident showed a "complete lack of empathy".
