VIDEO: Severe storm cuts electricity from 4200 Rocky homes

MORE than 4200 homes were left without power after a severe storm swept through Rockhampton yesterday afternoon.

Queensland Fire and Emergency crews were called to the corner of McCartney St and Yaamba Rd at 5.15pm after tree branches feel on a powerline and caught fire.

Ergon Energy corporate communicatios manager Bob Pleash said crews were also called to Rockonia Rd at 4.45pm and were still working to restore power to 1500 customers at 8pm last night.

Ergon crews also worked to fix powerlines on Marsh and Fenlon Aves from 5.23pm to 8pm for 1800 customers in the area.

Mr Pleash said 925 homes were affected by the McCartney St and Yaamba Rd outage, which was fixed by 7pm.
