Sex fiends warned that social media will help catch them
FROM Rockhampton yesterday, Jack Dempsey sent a clear warning to pedophiles and recidivist sex offenders - "your time is up".
The Police Minister wanted to make it loud and clear with the evolution of social media, and a revamp of how local police can filter crime through a new public online sphere, there was no chance offenders could get away with anything.
Mr Dempsey launched the Rockhampton myPolice Blog website, which allows residents to subscribe to their local myPolice website and chat to police about criminal matters.
The blogsite allows members of the public to report crime in their area, confidently leak anonymous information to police about an ongoing investigation, or check from anywhere in the world what's happening in their hometown.
Minister Dempsey said the blog would boost interaction between police and the public by giving officers another way to keep the community informed in a timely manner. The blog features crime prevention tips and lets officers interact with people who may not be able to attend Neighbourhood Watch meetings.
Through the blog, police officers can share information about personal safety, keeping property secure and show comfit images or stills from CCTV to a wider audience.
Mr Dempsey said myPolice Rockhampton joined blogs released around the state including Bundaberg, Maryborough, Cairns and the Gold Coast.
"The immediacy of communication through myPolice Rockhampton will allow officers to target crime and collect community feedback at a grass roots level," he said.
