Escaped prisoner caught

A DANGEROUS sex offender was on the run in the Wacol area yesterday, after being suspected of the assault of a female jogger.

Police said Andrew Clive Ellis removed his GPS tracking bracelet and absconded from his accommodation in the Wacol area about 12.50am yesterday.

It prompted a warning for women and girls not to jog or walk alone until Ellis was found.

It was revealed that Ellis was a person of interest in the assault of a woman at Seventeen Mile Rocks, about 6.30am yesterday.

Police warned members of the public not to approach Ellis but to instead contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if they knew any information that might help locate him or call triple-0 if an urgent response was required.

Police established a major incident room, which they said would run around the clock until Ellis was in custody.

Just before 4.30pm officers patrolling Emily St recognised Ellis.

Ellis surrendered to police without incident.

He is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
