Shannon and Simon: Block auctions were ‘horrible to watch’

SHANNON and Simon Vos are today celebrating their bittersweet win on The Block Glasshouse.

The brothers took home $435,000 in the dramatic series of auctions, which saw other teams go home with as little as $10,000.

"It rips your guts out to see your best mates work their arses off for six months and then not come away with much at all," Shannon told APN.

"We were happy with ourselves but we couldn't be jubilant, not with what had happened. Above winning we wanted everyone to do well and that didn't happen.

"They're all really, really upset."

Shannon credits their placement in the auction order as the key to their success.

April's Fans vs Faves auctions saw winners Steve and Chantelle benefit from a building momentum as the last team whose apartment went under the hammer.

While the Glasshouse auctions started strong, the bidding rapidly went cold.

"It was absolutely horrible to watch," Shannon said.

"Everyone else wanted to go last but our auctioneer said 'no this is a totally different kettle of fish; we want you to go second and before Max and Karstan'. The strategy worked perfectly.

"We owe him a nice big bottle of bubbly for sure."

Their south-facing luxury apartment sold for $1.9 million, $335,000 above their reserve. The overall win gave Shannon and Simon an additional $100,000 in prize money.

The Coffs Harbour-raised brothers will split the money, with Shannon using his half for a house deposit.

But their first order of business is to catch up on the surfing they missed out on during their 11 weeks on the show.

"The first thing we're going to do is take our builder on a surf trip over in Indonesia," Shannon said.

But the larrikins would also be open to more TV work, just not straight away.

"I wouldn't start another Block tomorrow," Shannon laughed.

"I'd give it a while to sink in and just chill out, get a few surfs in. I might do it again in a couple of months' time if I get asked.

"We'd definitely be interested in more TV work if the right show came along."
