Sheridan shows sure spark to deliver silver after bad crash
PULLING 20 splinters out of her backside was not the way Sheridan Spark hoped to open her 2014 Australian Track Cycling Championship campaign.
The gutsy Rockhampton teenager was involved in a nasty crash on the first night of the competition, but it did not stop her from claiming silver in yesterday's under-19 women's 500m time trial in a time of 36.656sec.
Spark said the first thing on her mind after hitting the deck at Adelaide's Super-drome on Wednesday night was getting back on the bike - and she did.
"One of the girls swung up the track without looking and took out a rider who then came down and took out half the field," Spark said. "There's nothing else you can really do but get back up and keep going racing, so I did.''
Spark finished the under-19 women's scratch race in eighth place in a field of 17 riders and was determined to achieve even better results when she contested the 500m time trial, keiren and sprint events last night.
Spark's 500m TT time was comparable to rising Rockhampton cycling star Taylah Jennings, who recorded a 36.162sec-finish in the open women's division.
